To be content doesn’t mean you have to want to stay in your current situation forever; contentment comes when you realize you’re exactly where God wants you to be, and you trust Him with the future.

Paul said, in Philippians 4:13, that he had learned the secret of contentment: “Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am” (MSG). The secret of contentment is to rely on God’s strength whether you’re in the valley of the shadow of death or on the highest mountaintop.

No circumstance will stay the same forever, which means you have to put your faith and your hope in the One who doesn’t change, the Rock of your salvation. When He is your focus, you can keep secure footing, no matter what comes your way.

Elisabeth Elliot wrote: “A spirit of calm contentment always accompanies true godliness. The deep peace that comes from deep trust in God’s loving-kindness is not destroyed even by the worst of circumstances, for those everlasting arms are still cradling us.”

Today, ask God to help you learn how to be content exactly where you are. Trust Him with tomorrow.

“Godliness with contentment is a great gain” (1 Tim. 6:6).
