“Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or who gave Him His counsel?” (Isa. 40:13).

God isn’t put off by our questions, but neither does He have to explain Himself. We must never hesitate to come to Him with whatever question is on our minds, but we must also accept the fact that God, by definition, can’t be fully understood by any human being. In fact, we’ll probably all have a good laugh one day when we realize how little we understood, even in our most astute and clever moments.

There is far greater truth than our minds can fathom. Our intellect is not the end-all, and therefore it’s ridiculous to back away from God because we can’t understand what He’s up to. Many a person has died without God, doomed to eternal separation, simply because he or she couldn’t figure Him out.

We fail to realize that we must come to Him first; only then will some of our questions be answered, and only then will we realize that other questions will never be answered—at least not until the next life.

Has your intellect been getting in the way of faith to the point that you refuse to believe? If so, are you brave enough to stop trying to figure God out for one week and simply live as though He is who He says He is? What do you have to lose? If you’re right, you’ve lost nothing, but if you’re wrong, perhaps He’ll make Himself known to you.

Today, are you up to the challenge? Do you have the courage to test it?
