“For Yahweh takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation” (Ps. 149:4).

Because of the cross, it’s natural to conclude that God loves His people. At great cost to Himself, He sent His Son to die for a sinful world and offer salvation to everyone. Alongside the great mystery of this love is the deep affection God has for His people.

God not only loves you, but He likes you, too.

You don’t irritate Him with all your eccentricities. He enjoys spending time with you and hearing about your day. You aren’t a bother to Him. Can you believe this? The God who holds the depths of oceans in His palm and knocks down mountains with His breath delights in spending time with you! It is His pleasure to adorn you with victory, salvation, and glory.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of viewing God as a busy Father who has better things to do than prioritize His children. This is not consistent with what has been revealed in Scripture, though. Time and time again, God shows us that He is not stingy with His affection, but instead delights in being needlessly good to us.

Today, remember that God doesn’t tolerate you; He delights in you. Store Psalm 149:4 in your heart and fight any thoughts that would tell you otherwise.
