“‘For this is like the days of Noah to Me: when I swore that the waters of Noah would never flood the earth again, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you … My covenant of peace will not be shaken,’ says your compassionate LORD” (Isa. 54:9-10).

There is no way to exaggerate the depth of God’s affection for you. In the same way He swore to never flood the earth again, so He has sworn to deal with you exclusively in love and compassion. This is only made possible through the sacrifice of Jesus. Do not lose sight of the cross. Continually behold God’s everlasting covenant of peace and reconciliation, sealed with the blood of His Son.

Consider this verse from Horatio Spafford’s hymn, “It Is Well with My Soul”:

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!

My sin, not in part but the whole,

Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

God’s anger against you was completely satisfied once and for all on the cross. Believing this will free you to pursue and delight in Him without fear of failing, knowing there is no wrath for you anymore.

Believing this will free you to trust Him when circumstances crumble, knowing He works all things for your good and His glory. Believing this will free you to walk by faith, knowing He does not set traps for His beloved, but rather delights in giving His children good gifts.

Today, remember you have a Father who loves you. You don’t need to earn His approval or appease His wrath.
