“Now the goal of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. Some have deviated from these and turned aside to fruitless discussion” (1 Tim. 1:5-6).

The goal of your life is not to have perfect theology; it is to love from a pure heart and genuine faith. If you don’t have love, it doesn’t matter if you understand the doctrine of election or baptism or prophecy. None of it matters apart from love. Seems too simple, right? Maybe not.

When asked what the most important command was, Jesus responded by saying, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these” (Mark 12:30-31).

The greatest command is not to tithe or attend church or stand up for what you believe in, although these things are important. The greatest command is to love.

Don’t settle for a religion of callous memorization and rule-following. You have been invited, even commanded, to experience a life of love. The supreme priority of a Christian is to love the Lord without reservation. This will bleed into your finances, church attendance, family, and work life, because the byproducts of a person truly in love with Jesus are endless.

Today, don’t deviate from the ultimate goal of your life. Keep it simple. Demonstrate your love to Christ and others.
