“Trust in the Lord forever, because in Yah, the Lord, is an everlasting rock! (Isa. 26:4).

According to Merriam-Webster, a mood is “a conscious state of mind or predominant emotion; a prevailing attitude; a receptive state of mind predisposing to action.”

For some, Christianity is a mood. For the moment, they’re predisposed to behave like Christians because their state of mind, their emotions, and/or their attitude is positive. Their faith is superficial; the word Christian doesn’t yet describe who they are to the core.

James warned his listeners: “Praising and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers, these things should not be this way” (3:10). It’s possible to praise and curse not only verbally, through our words, but also in our hearts, without saying a word. One minute we believe, and the next minute something has gotten under our skin. Suddenly, Jesus is on our bad side. We are moody and fickle.

Are you tired of being controlled by your emotions rather than the Holy Spirit? Remember that the seasoned, steadfast believer isn’t the one who floats around on a cloud all day; he’s the one who maintains a deep, permanent connection with and love for God that’s contingent not on his state of mind but on the steadfastness of God.

Today, will you trust Him as your “everlasting Rock”?
