Friday, May 17, 2019: Psalm 34:4

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4

If you were in trouble, who would you call on for help? Who would you text first?  Many of us can name right away the person we talk to the most often about the situations and relationships that trouble us. It’s great to have people like that in our lives, and certainly God does use them to help us. But no one has the capacity to meet all of our needs like God does. Do you regularly talk to Him about your troubles?

In Psalm 34:4, David recalled a time when he talked to God about his troubles. David had been in a really bad situation. King Saul and the army of Israel had surrounded him. If David had shouted, “Help!” to Jonathan or anyone else, nothing would have happened. The situation was outside any person’s control. David knew that. So he didn’t cry out to his friends; he cried out to God. David pleaded with God to deliver him from his trouble, and something amazing happened: God rescued David.

Taking our troubles to God is a matter of surrender, acknowledging that only God is able to meet our needs and trusting that He cares enough to do it. When we seek the Lord and bring our troubles to Him in prayer, something always happens. Our circumstances may not immediately improve, but God does answer us. He delivers us from our fears by giving us peace and the strength we need to face them.

  • What is on your mind today? What troubles or fears concern you?
  • Pray: Take your concerns before the Lord. Be reminded that as you pray, He hears you and is working for your good, even in your present trouble.
