When you read the Bible, you’ll notice that God didn’t give His people an itinerary of the events that would take place in their future; He simply gave them the next step.

When David was anointed as the king of Israel, God didn’t tell him that he would be running for his life for more than a decade, hiding in caves and seeking refuge in foreign lands, before his reign would start. Instead, David had to trust God day by day and hold on to His promises with unwavering resolve.

The same was true for Moses. God didn’t tell Moses that when he got to Egypt to demand the release of the Hebrew slaves, He would unleash 10 plagues, the last of which would finally cause Pharaoh to free the people. He also didn’t tell Moses that He was going to lead them straight to the Red Sea, where He’d part it, and then to Mara, where He’d make the bitter water sweet. Instead, God gave Moses the next step, and Moses had to trust God with the step after that. And God was always faithful.

Simply put, why would you need faith if you knew exactly what your future holds?

Not knowing, though, builds in you biblical faith, the kind of faith that causes you to trust God when you’re staring the Red Sea in the face and your enemies are closing in behind you.

Today, put your faith in the One who holds your future in His hands. Trust Him with the next step.

“But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and their left” (Ex. 14:29).
