Sometimes, living the God-life means taking risks that leave you wondering, Did I just do a very brave thing or a very dumb thing? All you know for sure is that you want to follow God, no matter what that looks like.

You wish for a booming voice from heaven but are made to listen for that still, small voice. You beg for clarity, but must simply trust.

God sometimes prepares you in advance; He impresses upon you that He’s about to do something that will wrench you out of your comfort zone — something that seems illogical, risky, uncomfortable — or even downright crazy.

If you’re stubborn, He might allow circumstances to back you into a corner until you can no longer ignore the call. Finally, you take the new job, move halfway across the country, dive headlong into marriage, close a business or start a new one, or apply for adoption.

Remember that following God into the unknown is rarely easy, and yet few have regretted doing so.

It’s natural to be scared. If you’ve made poor choices in the past, you might second-guess your decisions and doubt your ability to hear God, especially because He tends to speak in whispers and nudges. He probably won’t give you a burning bush, no matter how much you want one.

Today, determine to trust God and say yes to the changes He’s bringing. Embrace the peace that comes from knowing your Savior is holding you securely in His hands. Are you more dependent on Him than you’ve ever been in your life? Rejoice! That’s a good thing.

“And after the fire there was a voice, a soft whisper” (1 Kings 19:12).
